An Accra Human Rights Court has granted
popular broadcaster, Kwesi Kyei Darkwa (KKD)
bail.
He was granted bail on humanitarian grounds,
citing his health as one of the reasons.
Justice Kofi Essel Mensah who sat on the case
granted the renowned media personality bail of
sum GHC20,000 with two sureties.
KKD who has been charged with rape has denied
it arguing he had “consensual sex” with the
alleged victim.
He and his lawyers further resorted to the
Human rights courts to seek for bail after the
Magistrate court denied him same.
Meanwhile, the 19-year-old girl who accused
KKD of rape has withdrawn the charges.

December 27, 2014: Renowned broadcaster Kwasi
Kyei Darkwah is arrested by the police at the
African Regent Hotel and is held at the Airport
Police Station in Accra.
December 28, 2014: The police processed KKD for
court but they were unable to present their case
to the court due to their late arrival.
December 29, 2014: An member of KKD’s family
tells Citi News that they suspect foul play in the
circumstances leading to his arrest.
December 30, 2014: KKD is charged with rape
and makes his first appearance in court where
he is denied bail by a Kaneshi District Court.
December 31, 2014: Lawyers for KKD file another
bail application at the Human Rights Court in
Accra which they describe as a ‘higher court’
following the denial of their original
application.
December 31, 2014: In their application for bail
at the Human Rights Court, the lawyers say that
security footage at the hotel from the night of
the incident captured the complainant and
their client “romantically kissing” adding that
the two were locked in a similar embrace after
the alleged incident.
December 31, 2014: The fashion icon, in a
Facebook post, assures his sympathizers that he
is “alive and well” and warns his detractors not
to speak of his demise yet.
January 8, 2015: KKD is admitted at the Police
Hospital in Accra after he was seen limping
badly during his case for bail which was
adjourned by the Magistrate Court.
January 13, 2015: Reports emerge that the
alleged victim has withdrawn her complaint
against the broadcaster after his case for bail
was adjourned to Thursday, January 15.
