JOE HENDRICKS SLAMS CURRENT KOTOKO CAPTAIN..

Former Asante Kotoko captain Joe Hendricks has
branded current captain Amos Frimpong as a bad
leader following the team’s recent poor
performances.
Kotoko have suffered three consecutive
eliminations from the Caf Champions League
preliminary rounds and are currently lying fifth
on the local league log, seven points behind
leaders AshGold after 15 games.
The 40-year-old believes the captain should be
able to exhibit good leadership skills on and off
the field of play to propel the team to a different
height.
“I’m bitterly disappointed that Kotoko currently
don't have a good captain. A captain must be a
good leader everywhere,” Hendricks told Goal.
“When you wear the campaign armband, you owe
it to the team and fans.
“I was a good leader during our time and the
team and the players respected me so whatever I
said was taken in good faith. We had the club at
heart and defended the porcupine logo. I will
always blame the captain because he needs to do
much work on and off the field of play,” he said.
“Majority of the current players don't also have
the spirit to play for a big club like Kotoko and so
if you are a coach and you don't take care, you
will sign players who will be a disappointment to
your course”
“Oreba”, as he was affectionately referred to
during his prime days, was a pillar in the defence
for Kotoko and he captained the Kumasi-based
side between 2003-2005. He won two league titles
with Porcupine Warriors and guided them to the
finals of the maiden Caf Confederation Cup finals
in 2004, losing to rivals Hearts of Oak.
Kotoko have appointed three captains in the last
two seasons. Former captain Michael Akuffo
returned to the side after a botched move in
Libya but his armband was handed to Jordan
Opoku but the midfielder was later stripped off it
by mid season in favour of current captain Amos
Frimpong.
