Medeama
coach Tom Strand has said he is now thinking of fixing his team’s
attacking proficiency after the team’s qualification to the 1/8th round
of the Orange CAF Confederation Cup.
The
Ghanaian FA Cuo holders progressed to the next round following a 2-0
win at home against Libyan side Al Ittihad at the Essipong Stadium on
Sunday.
According to CAFOnline.com,Strand said that “it is a fantastic feeling to have qualified.
Obviously, we need to work on our goal scoring rate. The team created a
lot of chances. We were unlucky that we could not score more goals, and
that is something we need to work on. Apart from that, I’m proud of the
players and the performance today.
“I
think goal scoring is something that the whole of Ghana have issue
with. We have to be effective in front of goal to be able to do well in
such competitions, especially when we can create that many chances.”
Abass
Mohammed’s two first half goals were enough to hand Medeama
qualification on a 2-1 aggregate following 1-0 defeat by the Libyans in
the first tie played in Tunisia.
Strand
added “It is a fantastic victory. I think we played fantastic football
and we are better than the opponent and that makes me happy”.
Medeama
remains Ghana’s only club still involved in this year’s CAF Inter Club
competitions following the ouster of AshantiGold from the Orange CAF
Champions League.
