Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune believes his side can still qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, insisting ‘anything is still possible’ ahead of their return march against Cameroon this evening.

South Africa find themselves way off the pace of the Group M leaders after playing to a 2-2 draw with the Indomitable Lions on Saturday, and it seems highly unlikely that they will be able to win the race for a spot in Gabon 2017.

Yet Khune believes Shakes Mashaba’s side still has a chance of qualifying for the next Nations Cup, insisting anything is possible.

"It is still possible and we just have to keep our heads held high, fight for the next nine points because now we are sitting on two points," he said.

"If we fight for the next nine we will be sitting on eleven points and anything it is still possible.”

He added, "We can't afford to throw in the towel just yet because I think if we can start from Tuesday collecting the three points, and then another three points, it’s still possible.

“It's not going to be easy, yes, but with the type of football we playing, the team that we have, I think we can achieve great things and take this country to AFCON next year."
